Beefing up aviation safety

A new report shows that safety levels in Swiss aviation are above average, but standards have fallen over the past few years.
The transport ministry says it is examining ways of improving safety in civil aviation.
The ministry appointed a security expert to propose a series of measures within the next few weeks to improve safety both in the air and on the ground.
Since 1998, Switzerland's civil aviation industry has been struck by a series of accidents, including the crash of a Swissair jet off the coast of Canada.
A year ago 71 people died in a midair collision in Swiss controlled airspace over southern Germany.

Switzerland has had a lot of air tragedies in the last few years starting in '98 with swissair 111. (Hope they're looking into why the IFEN was installed in their aircraft in light of the final report revelations)

Crossair-2 crashes with several fatalities
The collision of 2 airplanes over Switzerland
The crash of swissair 111

That's not a great record IMHO. Sounds like some improvement is long overdue.

Accusations over crash

The relatives of the victims of last year's mid-air collision in Swiss-controlled airspace say they have yet to receive an apology.
A lawyer for the victims' families said the apologies of the governments of Switzerland and Germany as well as that of the Swiss air traffic control agency, Skyguide, would not be tantamount to admitting liability.
She also called for those responsible for the death of 71 people, mainly children from Russia, to be punished.
