UPS to acquire 11 ex-Swiss MD-11s

UPS will acquire 11 ex-Swiss International/Swissair MD-11s to expand the capacity of its network. The aircraft will be converted into freighters by Boeing and deliveries are expected to begin in the first quarter of this year and extend through 2007. The additional aircraft will bring the number of MD-11s in the UPS fleet and on order to 28. Fifteen are in service. The sale was arranged by Focus Aviation on behalf of Central Air Leasing. Financial details were not released.
