Picked the following up from another site. It outlines the training received by flight crews... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ avionics smoke drills..... Posted By: ******* Date: Tues, 28 Jan 2003, at 5:29:35 AM just completed my 6 month OPC on the 'bus and we had the dreaded avionics smoke drill, but the fly in the ointment from our training department was that when we put on our EROS hoods, they had placed an insert to simulate the very low visibility of smoke in the cockpit...the things I took away from this drill.... 1) you'll have about 14 minutes to get the thing on the ground according to the statistics, from first detection of perceptible smoke (ie you see or smell something in addition to the avionics smoke caution)....do not hang around at altitude, thinking you can 'sort the problem' while still above the ram air heights...get the thing down immediately 2) get the cabin crew in on the drill almost immediately to help source the smoke, if you're unsure... 3) after the mask is on, your ability to communicate with the other seat goes down by about 75%...talk loudly or shout at your copilot/captain like he's some dim-witted foreigner so that he can take on board what you're doing 4) prioritize to get the thing on the ground at the expense of any checklist not being completed excepts the basics of gear and flaps... | |||
