20th Anniversary of the Swissair Flight 111 Tragedy Premier's Office August 31, 2018 11:18 AM NOTE: The following is a statement from Premier Stephen McNeil. This Sunday, Sept. 2, marks the 20th anniversary of the crash of Swissair Flight 111 just off Nova Scotia’s shores. The 229 souls lost that night were not from Nova Scotia, but as their families travelled here to grieve, Nova Scotians reacted with deep compassion, doing our best to offer whatever comfort we could in the wake of such a sudden, devastating loss. To the many Nova Scotians – fisherman, first responders, volunteers – who worked tirelessly through the recovery effort and supported family members of the victims, our enduring thanks. Your empathy, resolve and kindness showed the best of us to one another and the world. To those who lost loved ones in the crash, we again extend our deepest condolences. Rest assured, we will continue to honour the memory of those you lost in the years to come. -30- Media Contacts: David Jackson 902-424-3882 Cell: 902-266-8060 Email: David.Jackson@novascotia.ca | |||
