Maryanne Kealy has come to Nova Scotia each September for the last four years to remember her son, John Neuweiler, a passenger aboard doomed Swissair Flight 111.
“I feel as though his spirit is here. He would have loved this place,” Kealy said, casting eyes reddened from crying around the picturesque fishing village of Peggy’s Cove yesterday.
“I will always come, every year.”
On Sept. 2, 1998, the New York-Geneva flight carrying Neuweiler and his wife, Adrienne, plunged into the waters off Peggy’s Cove, killing all 229 people aboard.
The couple were heading to Greece for their 10-year anniversary — their last trip before starting a family. Travel buffs, they’d even got married in an airport.
