Bulgaria Pushes US to Take it off Airlines Blacklist Business: 31 August 2005, Wednesday. Bulgaria called on the United States to take it off the blacklist of airlines it judges unsafe, the country's aviation authorities announced in a report. The report, which has been sent to Bulgaria's transport ministry, says an invitation has been extended to US experts to visit the country in September and assess the progress made in airline safety. Guides and regulations for checking and licensing airlines, as well as investigating air crashes have been issued in line with the US recommendations, the aviation authorities assured. The United States blacklisted Bulgaria's airlines two years ago over fears about the efficiency of the aviation authorities and air carrier checks. The system of the United States focuses on countries rather than airlines, and uses aviation safety standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization, a United Nations agency headquartered in Montreal. The United States have blacklisted twenty-six countries, most in Africa, South America and the Caribbean. http://www.novinite.com/view_news.php?id=51805This message has been edited.
