Management failures are at least partly to blame for the deepening crisis at the national airline, Swiss, according to the country's press. The day after the airline announced the loss of 3,000 jobs, the Neue Z'rcher Zeitung said Swiss faced a tough struggle to survive. It blamed strong competition, flight restrictions imposed by Germany and union intransigence, but said management had also made its share of mistakes. The NZZ said management had had no other choice than to take such tough measures, but warned Swiss that it could not afford to make any more mistakes in implementing its new strategy. The TagesAnzeiger argued that the airline could not go on blaming the outbreak of the Sars virus or the war in Iraq for problems of its own creation. CEO Andre Doss management strategy had been unclear at best, it said. Who will save Swiss? Dose and his entourage are obviously not able to.

...but at least this team hasn't caused any deaths with their poor decisions. BTW why aren't the Swiss looking further into that 'entertainment system' installed on sr111? Why isn't the Swiss press looking into how it happened to be installed on the swissair MD-11 jets?

You know one watches 'swiss' continue to have the same outcome (minus the tragic crash of sr111) and can't help wondering if just maybe Switzerland can't support an airline of their own particularly in a weak global economy. This is what I suspect is happening... There just isn't enough business to keep the 'swiss' airline viable.

Apparently the government of Switzerland won't be injecting any cash into the Swiss airline but that's today.
