American Airlines Flight 1567 departed La Guardia for Miami at 9:20 a.m. with 135 people on board, spokeswoman Holly Baker said. Pilots noticed smoke in the cockpit and diverted the plane, an MD-80, to make an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport. The smoke dissipated before the 9:37 a.m. landing, Baker said.
